Moody blues at Cheekwood
Do you like to paint on a gray day? I love to because you can really see muted colors and the painting is about your subject, not the light & shadow. While out at Cheekwood yesterday on "Chestnut Tuesdays", I wanted to paint the sculpture at the reflection pool because the grayish blue color of the water looked so different than it does on a sunny day. I'd rather paint on a cool, overcast day anytime over a hot summer day wouldn't you? title: "Moody blues at Cheekwood", 9x12 inches, oil.

Sherrie, your painting is quite lovely. As to your question, I'm trying to like grey days for exactly the reason you give. But I love the play of light on a sunny day so much that appreciating the greyer days has been a bit hard for me.
Thanks! I love the play of light & shadow too Shirley, but a gray day can be such a nice break...it's certainly much easier on my eyes!
This is beautiful - if I could capture the grey days as well as you, I'd love them too!
Thanks Robin. I learned how to see gray day colors with Camille Prezwodek, my favorite works of hers are what she paints on overcast days!
